We invite you to imagine a new paradigm. One where the principles of Prevention, Education and Training via Compassion, Awareness, Respect and Empathy reign supreme.

“Clearing the shelters” and “No Kill” events are noble and heroic goals. But, what if we prevent animals from winding up in these desperate scenarios in the first place? What if we re-think our approach to be one of prevention, first?

By elevating prevention education as the priority on our short list of doable change, we can be the alternative to ignorance, misinformation and cruelty. We can become the voice of of awareness, compassion and respect towards our fellow creatures. We can offer solutions with the ultimate goal of keeping them from ending up in harm’s way in the first place.

Let’s begin by setting aside centuries of old dogma about animals, their care and behavior. Let’s open our minds to new information, cutting-edge discoveries in the fields of animal behavior, communication, nutrition, medicine and most especially, decades of cognitive studies that now challenge what we thought we knew about the animal mind – and our own.

As we journey together, remember that disagreement and debate over new ideas are a natural and healthy part of scientific and philosophical growth, when carried out in the spirit of compassion, awareness, respect and continual education. It’s all right to feel skeptical, just as it’s all right to make up your own mind and come to your own conclusions despite the nay-saying by those with a socio/economic/political or personal stake in protecting the status quo.

DID YOU KNOW: It takes approximately twenty years before a new, proven (often controversial) discovery is accepted as fact into the mainstream. This seems to be society’s comfort zone when it comes to change, releasing the old, and embracing the new.

So, let’s begin this journey by embracing the new, improve our role as caretakers, companions and champions for our pets, farm animals, wildlife, and each other…redefining what it means to be truly human – and humane.
